Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO) an  ISO 9001: 2008 Company, is a Central Public Sector unit, working under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India. Incorporated in the year 1972, ALIMCO has been engaged in manufacture and supply/distribution of Assistive Devices for Persons with Disabilities since 1976. It has so far provided assistive device to about 42 lakh of PwDs across the length and breadth of the country. Product range of ALIMCO include 35 categories of cost effective and quality assistive device having 360 variants approx. covering aids & appliance for orthopedically, visually, hearing & mentally impaired persons. During past three years, the corporation has witnessed quantum jump in turnover and registered remarkable growth of 45%. 

For the past four decades , ALIMCO has been working  for the  consistent growth in turnover by means of  benefitting larger number of PwDs,  year after year. However, up-gradation of product as well as manufacturing technology lost priority zone of the Corporation in the wake of concentration on increasing turnover of its existing products and expanding its reach to every nook and corner. Due to the continuous use ,  most of its infrastructural resources such as plant / machinery, civil structure, electrical work , manufacturing technology product profile etc. are almost on the verge of completing their life cycle or have become obsolete . In addition , over the years the corporation has been facing inadequate and inappropriate human resources. Since survival in the market depends on upgradation of quality of products, it was felt imperative therefore to undertake modernisation of the infrastructure as also the production line to meet the ever increasing challenge from the private players.
