The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) is a wholly owned company by Government of India. NHFDC functions as an apex institution for extending financial support for education, self-employment and entrepreneurship of the Persons with Disabilities through the State channelizing Agencies (SCAs) nominated by the State Government(s) /selected Public Sector Banks (PSBs)/Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).
Prominent schemes being implemented by NHFDC are given below in brief :
i. Self-employment:- NHFDC provide financial assistance in terms of loan to Persons with Disabilities for setting up income generating activities through the Implementing Agencies.
NHFDC provides maximum loan upto 25.0 lakh to Persons with disabilities for self-employment activity at a concessional rate of interest of 5-8% p.a. (1% rebate for women PwDs and 0.5 % rebate for VH/HH/MR PwDs).
ii. Education:- NHFDC also provides education Loan through the Implementing Agencies for pursuing higher education in India and abroad. All courses having employment prospects i.e. Graduation Courses/Post graduation courses/ professional courses and other courses approved by UGC/Government/AICTE etc. are eligible. Maximum amount of loan is Rs.10.0 lakh for courses within India and Rs.20.0 lakh for courses abroad. The rate of interest is 4% per annum, (rebate of 0.5% on interest is allowed to women beneficiaries).
